Der Datensatz umfasst eine vereinfachte Darstellung der Gliederung des Naturraums des Kantons Bern. Sie beruht im Wesentlichen auf der Bodeneignungskarte und den Physiotypen gemäss Grosjean 1977. Berücksichtigt wurden vor allem Landschaftsformen, Bodentypen, Höhenlage, Geologie, Klima und Hydrologie.
